The Golden State Warriors have acquired Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat in a multi-team trade, sending Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schröder, Kyle Anderson, Lindy Waters II, and a top-10 protected first-round pick to Miami. Following the trade, Butler agreed to a two-year, $121 million contract extension with the Warriors, securing his place on the team through the 2026–2027 season.
This move aims to bolster the Warriors’ roster, pairing Butler with Stephen Curry to enhance the team’s performance. Despite Butler’s limited playtime this season, his on-court efficiency and experience make him a valuable addition. However, concerns have been raised regarding his durability and age, as Butler is 35 years old and has faced multiple suspensions this season due to conflicts with the Heat.
Prior to the trade, there were reports that both Stephen Curry and head coach Steve Kerr had reservations about acquiring Butler. Curry emphasized the importance of maintaining the franchise’s future stability, expressing reluctance toward making desperate moves that could deplete future assets. Kerr also highlighted the team’s need to assess all options, acknowledging the Warriors’ inconsistent performance this season.
Despite these concerns, the Warriors proceeded with the trade, aiming to leverage Butler’s proven playoff performance and defensive prowess. The decision reflects the organization’s commitment to immediate improvement, even as it navigates the balance between short-term gains and long-term planning.
