Maple Leafs Trade Pitch Lands Them $34 Million Winger in Multi-Player Deal.

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine has been the subject of trade rumors, with one proposed trade involving the Toronto Maple Leafs. Laine requested a trade and, after entering the NHL and NHLPA Player Assistance Program on July 26, speculation intensified. A user on PuckPedia’s new PuckGM tool suggested a deal where Laine, with salary retained, is traded in a multi-player exchange.

Trade details:
– **Maple Leafs receive:**
– Patrik Laine ($4.4 million salary retained)
– 2025 third-round pick
– **Blue Jackets receive:**
– Nick Robertson
– David Kampf
– 2026 first-round pick

This trade would be significant, adding Laine as an offensive asset for the Maple Leafs while Columbus retains $4.4 million of Laine’s salary, who is in the third year of his $34.8 million contract. Columbus would gain Nick Robertson, a restricted free agent seeking a trade from Toronto due to limited playing time, and David Kampf, a defensive forward with 19 points in 78 games. The 2026 first-round pick from Toronto is a key asset in this deal.

The Blue Jackets are looking for the “right fit” for trading Laine. Despite Laine’s request for a trade, no agreement has been reached yet. Columbus GM Don Waddell emphasized finding a deal that makes sense for the team, acknowledging Laine’s desire for a fresh start but also the need for a suitable trade.

Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving, despite Robertson’s trade request, has stated his intention to retain the player, citing Robertson’s potential and importance to the team. Robertson recorded 14 goals and 13 assists in 56 games last season and has 34 points in 87 NHL games.
