Warner Music and BMG to release Tina turner joint posthumous album, The Last Dance with Cher

Album . Entertainment Article

Warner Music and BMG have announced the upcoming release of The Last Dance, a powerful and emotional joint posthumous album featuring the legendary Tina Turner and global icon Cher. This rare and historic project brings together two of the most commanding voices in music history, blending unreleased Tina Turner recordings with newly recorded vocals from Cher. The album is being described as a final celebration of resilience, transformation, and enduring sisterhood between two women who changed the face of rock and soul.

The Last Dance is not a traditional duet album. Instead, it is a curated journey of songs—some newly written, others drawn from the archives—that reflect the lives, struggles, and triumphs of Tina and Cher. While the two never collaborated in the studio during Tina’s lifetime, they shared mutual admiration and a deep understanding of the battles women face in the spotlight. This album is a tribute not only to their talent but to their legacy of survival and strength.

The project began taking shape in early 2024 when Warner Music executives revisited unreleased recordings Tina made during her final years in Switzerland. These tracks, originally kept private due to their emotional depth, carried messages of closure, healing, and reflection. With the blessing of Tina Turner’s estate, BMG invited Cher to lend her voice and spirit to the unfinished work, and what began as a tribute soon evolved into a full-length collaboration.

Cher, who has often spoken of Tina Turner as one of her few true equals in the industry, said in a statement that the project is “the most personal and soul-stirring work” she’s ever done. She recorded several of her parts in a quiet Malibu studio, often working late into the night while listening to Tina’s isolated vocals. The emotional weight of the sessions is said to have moved many in the studio to tears, with producers noting that Cher seemed to be singing to Tina rather than with her.

Musically, the album spans a wide range of styles, from the gritty rock ‘n’ roll that defined Tina’s solo career to the lush, sweeping ballads that Cher has made her own. A standout track, “Broken Glass,” is a slow-burning anthem of endurance, while the title track “The Last Dance” builds into a thunderous final chorus where the two voices seem to merge across time. Other highlights include “Burning Miles,” an acoustic number about distance and memory, and “Steel and Silk,” a fierce declaration of feminine power.

The production has been handled with utmost care and intention. Grammy-winning producers such as Linda Perry and Mark Ronson contributed to the arrangements, ensuring that the album feels timeless rather than retrospective. Archival footage and sound bites of Tina’s spoken reflections will be woven into the album as interludes, creating a dialogue between past and present, absence and presence.

Fans will also be treated to a visual companion to the album. A short film is in the works, featuring never-before-seen footage of both stars, spanning early performances, backstage moments, and private interviews. The visual piece will accompany deluxe editions of the album and will be screened in select theaters worldwide. It aims to bring their legacy to life not just in sound, but in spirit.

Early press previews of The Last Dance have described the album as “hauntingly beautiful,” “a celebration and a farewell,” and “an unexpected gift to fans around the world.” Critics are already predicting Grammy nominations and landmark chart success, not just because of the star power involved, but due to the deep emotional resonance of the music.

On June 26, 2025, Warner Music and BMG will officially release The Last Dance across all streaming platforms and in special edition vinyl formats. The date was chosen in honor of Tina Turner’s legacy, as it marks exactly one year since the idea for the collaboration first received the blessing of her estate. That same day, cities around the world including London, Los Angeles, Berlin, and Lagos will hold listening sessions and tribute concerts celebrating her life and the album’s debut.

In addition to the global release, a portion of the album’s proceeds will be donated to organizations supporting domestic abuse survivors, an issue both women have championed throughout their careers. The album is not only a testament to their musical genius but a call to action—reminding listeners of the strength it takes to rise from pain and the beauty that can follow.

The Last Dance is more than a musical project. It is a final bow, a whispered promise, and a bold reminder that legends never truly say goodbye. In merging the voices of Tina Turner and Cher—two icons who shaped generations—the album offers fans one last chance to celebrate, reflect, and dance. It’s a love letter written in harmony and heartbreak, closing one chapter while keeping their spirits alive forever.
