Bruce Springsteen Narrowly Misses Returning To No. 1

Bruce Springsteen is one of the most successful musicians of all time, and that statement is true in a number of countries outside of the U.S., where he remains something of a legend. He’s performing especially well in the U.K. at the moment, as this week, the superstar nearly returned to No. 1 on one tally—though he misses out on the throne by just a single space.

On this week’s Official Americana chart—the U.K.’s list of the top-selling albums in the nation that can be classified as Americana—Springsteen rises. His Best Of compilation pushes one space to No. 2, putting the Grammy winner within striking distance of the penthouse.

No. 2 holds as the peak for Best Of on the Official Americana chart. Despite being a greatest hits collection from one of the most powerful names in that field, it hasn’t yet been able to reach the summit—even after more than 20 weeks on the list.

Throughout his career, Springsteen has placed just five titles on the Official Americana ranking. All of them have reached the highest two slots on the roster.

Three of Springsteen’s top two wins on the Americana tally have risen all the way to No. 1. Western Stars, Letter to You, and Only the Strong Survive have ruled the chart, at least for a short time. Among that trio, the first is the biggest win, as it’s dominated the tally for 20 weeks.

In addition to Best Of, Springsteen’s The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concert—a recording of that very special show—has also failed to become a No. 1 by just one rung. That project is matched with his compilation as his lowest-charting title on the Americana ranking…though they aren’t behind by much.

As it rises to the runner-up position on the Official Americana chart, Springsteen’s Best Of also manages to return to another ranking in the U.K. The set is back on the Official Albums Streaming list, where it re-enters at No. 93 this frame.
