Boston Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum has reportedly agreed to a five-year, $315 million supermax extension, making it the largest contract in NBA history.

This extension, which begins in the 2025-26 season, solidifies Tatum’s commitment to the Celtics and reflects his status as one of the league’s premier players.

Tatum’s new contract follows a series of significant financial commitments by the Celtics to their core players.

Jaylen Brown, Tatum’s co-star, signed a five-year, $303.7 million supermax extension last season.

Additionally, the Celtics have secured Jrue Holiday on a four-year, $135 million deal, Derrick White on a four-year, $126 million contract, and Kristaps Porziņģis on a two-year, $60 million extension.

These investments underscore the organization’s dedication to maintaining a championship-contending roster.

The Celtics are coming off one of the best seasons in the team’s illustrious history, winning a total of 80 games (including playoffs) en route to the franchise’s 18th title.

With Tatum and Brown under contract through at least the 2028-29 season, the Celtics have a good shot to extend their title record over the 17-time champion Lakers.

Tatum’s extension is a testament to his exceptional performance and value to the team.

In the 2024-25 regular season, he has averaged 28.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game, showcasing his all-around capabilities on the court.

His leadership and skill were instrumental in the Celtics’ recent championship run, and the franchise is clearly banking on his continued excellence in the years to come.

As the Celtics navigate the financial implications of these substantial contracts, they are poised to remain a dominant force in the NBA.

The organization’s willingness to invest heavily in its star players reflects a commitment to sustaining a winning culture and pursuing further championships in the near future.
