Deontay Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott, has shared his thoughts on a potential showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, expressing skepticism about Joshua’s chances. Scott, known for his analytical take on the heavyweight division, believes that Joshua is no longer the fighter he once was, particularly after his back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk and his more cautious performance in subsequent bouts.
Scott pointed out that Joshua’s recent fights suggest a more tentative and less aggressive approach compared to the explosive fighter who rose to prominence by defeating the likes of Wladimir Klitschko and Dillian Whyte. “He’s not who he used to be,” Scott remarked in a recent interview, highlighting how Joshua’s mentality might have shifted after facing adversity in the ring. The trainer argued that Joshua’s confidence has taken a hit, which could be detrimental against a fighter as dominant and unpredictable as Tyson Fury.
On the other hand, Scott praised Fury’s adaptability and psychological edge. Fury, undefeated and the reigning WBC heavyweight champion, has showcased a range of skills that make him a formidable opponent for any heavyweight. From his technical masterclass against Wladimir Klitschko to his knockout power displayed in his trilogy with Deontay Wilder, Fury has demonstrated an ability to adjust his strategy based on his opponent’s strengths and weaknesses.
Scott suggested that Joshua’s cautious style would play into Fury’s hands. “Tyson is a master at exploiting weaknesses,” he noted, emphasizing Fury’s ability to control the pace of a fight and dominate
