New look Saskatchewan Rush look to build off preseason in National Lacrosse League opener.

The Saskatchewan Rush are poised to make a strong debut in the 2024 National Lacrosse League (NLL) season, following an exciting preseason that showcased their depth and potential. After a somewhat disappointing 2023 campaign, the Rush are eager to reset and build off the momentum of their preseason performances, which highlighted new talent and a renewed sense of team chemistry.

The team’s offseason moves have been strategic, bringing in fresh faces and bolstering key areas, particularly on the offensive and defensive fronts. Saskatchewan’s preseason games provided glimpses of how these additions could gel with the established core of veterans, including captain Chris Corbeil and star forward Mark Matthews. With new acquisitions such as forward Zach Dornan and defenseman Ryan Dilks, the Rush are aiming to bring both fresh energy and experience to the lineup.

Head coach Derek Keenan, who enters his 13th season at the helm, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back. “We’ve got the right mix of youth and experience, and the preseason games were a great opportunity to iron out some wrinkles and start building our chemistry,” said Keenan.

The Rush’s offense, led by Matthews, will look to be more explosive, utilizing their fast-paced style of play, while the defense, now stronger with the addition of Dilks, will aim to lock down opposing attacks and give goaltender Adam Shute the support he needs.

As the team prepares for the opener, the focus is on consistency and execution. The Rush know the road ahead will be challenging, but they are determined to build on their solid preseason foundation and show the league that they are back as contenders for the NLL championship.
