In March 2025, Michigan Technological University (MTU) joined Michigan’s University Research Corridor (URC), a coalition comprising Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, and Wayne State University. This marks the first expansion of the URC since its inception in 2006.
Elevating Research and Innovation
MTU’s inclusion in the URC follows its recent elevation to R1 research institution status by the Carnegie Classification, placing it among the nation’s elite research universities.
