New Zealand & Jamaica Leapfrog England, as Four New Teams Also Enter the WN World Rankings.

More Sport Article

World Netball has today updated the World Netball (WN) World Rankings for the final time in 2024, including events up until the 26th of November 2024, which has led to 30 positional changes to the WN World Rankings table.

The first change can be seen at 2nd, with New Zealand moving back into this spot after winning the Constellation Cup against Australia.

Australia remains in 1st place, despite their rating decreasing by five to 204, meaning the gap between 1st and 2nd has reduced from 20 to 12 rating points.

The changes don’t stop there in the top half of the table, with Jamaica moving into 3rd place following their victory over England in the Horizon Series.

This means England, who were previously 2nd in the last WN World Rankings update on the 6th of October, now sit in 4th place with their rating having reduced by one.

Other events included in this update are the Asia Netball Championships, Battle of the Saints, SPAR Challenge Series, Wales vs. Zimbabwe, and Celtic Cup.

The results from the Asia Netball Championships and Battle of the Saints mean that four new teams have entered the WN World Rankings, having reached the minimum number of matches required (8) for a WN World Ranking in a WN World Ranking period at these events.

India entered at 41st, whilst the British Virgin Islands entered at 45th, and Chinese Taipei and the Maldives both enter at 50th, with the same points and rating.

We now end the year with 52 teams in the WN World Rankings, eight more than this time last year (44).

Another change as a result of the Battle of the Saints included St. Maarten pushing themselves to 30th in the WN World Rankings table as a result of winning all of their matches.

Whilst following the Asia Netball Championships, changes included Sri Lanka and Singapore moving up one place each to 22nd and 23rd, respectively; the Philippines (35th) and Hong Kong (37th) both moving up two places each; Malaysia moving up three places to 28th; and Brunei dropping four places to 46th.

There was also lots of movement in the Africa Region following their team’s involvement in the Celtic Cup, SPAR Challenge Series, and Wales vs. Zimbabwe Series. The Africa Netball Cup results will not be included in the WN World Rankings until the New Year.

South Africa remains in 5th, having increased their rating by two after winning all three of their matches against Malawi in the SPAR Challenge Series. Malawi remains in 7th.

The Celtic Cup between Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Zimbabwe only led to one change in the table, with Northern Ireland dropping one place to 12th.
