Zhilei Zhang Delivers Honest Verdict On Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury After Both Losing To Usyk.

Chinese heavyweight boxer Zhilei Zhang has expressed skepticism about the significance of a potential bout between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, especially after both fighters suffered consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk. Zhang believes that the allure of a Joshua-Fury matchup has diminished, stating, “I don’t think that means a lot.”

Zhang’s perspective is influenced by the recent shifts in the heavyweight division. Usyk’s victories over both Joshua and Fury have solidified his status as the dominant force in the division, leading Zhang to question the relevance of a Joshua-Fury clash in the current landscape.

Zhang himself has been making significant strides in the heavyweight rankings. He is scheduled to face Agit Kabayel for the WBC interim heavyweight title, a bout that could position him as a leading contender for a future title shot. His manager, Terry Lane, has been vocal about Zhang’s ambitions, stating that Zhang is targeting a showdown with Usyk later this year, provided he secures a victory against Kabayel.

The Chinese boxer’s recent performances have garnered attention, particularly his victory over former WBC champion Deontay Wilder in June 2024, where Zhang secured a fifth-round knockout. This win has bolstered his reputation and underscored his potential to challenge the top heavyweights in the division.

In light of these developments, Zhang’s assessment of a Joshua vs. Fury fight reflects a broader sentiment within the boxing community.
