He may be entering the final season of his career, but Eli Tomac isn’t just going out to make up the numbers. He wants to show the new generation the old guard is making one final stand of defiance.
“I still feel really good on the motorcycle,” insisted new WSX champ Tomac, in conversation with Jason Thomas on the SMX NBC preview show. “I am going to give this one more full season of SMX. That’s what is in my head, that I can still be that guy; I can still be the top guy battling with Jett Lawrence and Chase Sexton. There is no way I would have signed up for 2025 for just a farewell tour; I still feel like I can be there.
And Tomac, with his legacy already secured and second on the all-time supercross win list, said:
“I am not chasing a specific championship now; I am just chasing the chequered flag. For me, I feel like I can be at a super high level and still do this for another year. I am going to do the best I can to get this SMX champion in 2025.
After three decades of putting his heart and soul into the sport that consumed his life and gave him his purpose, Eli was asked about thinking about the emotions of his impending final race, which could come at the MXoN in Ironman. A smiling-with-emotion Tomac admitted, “It’s going to be heavy.”
Enjoy Eli Tomac’s final season as another legend calls it a day; it would be the perfect redemptive arc for Eli to leave on top with a third supercross title that he should have had in 2023 had it not been for his torn achilles at his round in Colorado.
This is one final shot with no pressure. Tomac is free but focused, with nothing to lose and everything to gain. Don’t count him out.
